Women's sport is finally getting its due

For decades women's sport was told to wait its turn. That era is over. The support female athletes fought so long for is arriving, and the fans, media and money are following. The agencies and brands that get behind women athletes now will see the returns within five years.
The shift is already underway
Women's competitions that once struggled for a broadcast slot are now sold out and streamed worldwide. Standalone women's events are drawing their own sponsors rather than being bundled in as an afterthought. Prize money gaps, while not closed, are narrowing across several major sports, and dedicated women's leagues are attracting serious investment.
This is not a moment of charity. It is a market correcting itself. For years the demand for women's sport was underestimated because it was under-served: hard to find, poorly scheduled and rarely promoted. Given real visibility, audiences have shown up.
Why brands are moving now
Three things make this the moment for brands to act rather than watch:
- Engaged audiences. Fans of women's sport tend to be loyal and values-driven, which converts well for brands that show up authentically rather than opportunistically.
- Attractive economics. Sponsorship inventory in women's sport is still relatively affordable. Early partners lock in long-term equity before the market fully prices it in.
- Cultural credibility. Backing women's sport signals something real about a brand's values, at a time when audiences reward that and punish tokenism.
The brands that win here will not be the ones who arrive late and pay a premium. They will be the ones who partnered early, built real relationships with athletes, and grew alongside the movement.
What it means for female athletes
For athletes, the opportunity is bigger than a one-off endorsement. This is the window to build a brand that outlasts a playing career: equity deals, long-term partnerships, media platforms and businesses that keep generating value long after the final match.
But opportunity is not the same as strategy. The athletes who capture the most from this moment will be the ones who are represented well: who say no to the wrong deals, protect their image rights, and build a plan rather than chase every offer. That is where the right agency changes everything.
Women's sport is not waiting for permission anymore. The question for brands is no longer whether to invest, but whether they will be early or late.
How Verde backs women in sport
Verde actively represents women across our roster, from WTA tennis to the first female Saudi cyclist we have signed. We treat female athletes exactly the way we treat every client: with the full weight of the agency behind contract negotiation, brand partnerships, sponsorship, image rights, media and long-term career and investment planning.
We believe women's sport is entering its strongest commercial era, and we are building for it, not reacting to it.
